Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Results in Four People Injured in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a shooting incident that erupted late Saturday at the Howe Community Park area at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were breaking up an unsanctioned gathering of a crowd of several hundred.

Prior to the Shooting

Deputies were first called to the park on Howe Avenue around 6:30 PM after learning of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Soon after, a follow-up call was made concerning a possible physical fight occurring at the location.

An overhead unit scanned the area from the air but reported no active disturbance. Nevertheless, it was apparent that a crowd of several hundred had congregated at Howe Park without permission.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by encircling the gathering and announcing over their public address systems instructing the crowd to leave immediately. Approximately 15 minutes were allotted for the crowd to leave.

As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots were discharged. The shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Law enforcement immediately began identifying shooting victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Ultimately, four gunshot victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — a group of one female and three male victims all reportedly in their 20s — were brought to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Hospital staff indicated that two were treated for serious injuries, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

Metro Fire Sacramento assisted at the location and aided in treating those who had been shot at the park.

Physical Evidence

The main Howe Community Park shooting 2026 crime scene was determined to have happened near the Cottage Way side of the park adjacent to the Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. CSI personnel found additional shell casings along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were observed in the iron fence bordering the Home Depot store. These findings indicated that one of the gunmen had been shooting in a southerly direction from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot store. The store itself was put under lockdown for a period of time. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives kept processing evidence throughout the night.

Arrests Made

Information obtained via scanner audio indicated that a Kia was contacted by law enforcement in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were taken into custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for questioning. Video evidence showed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
